In dieser Arbeit wird der Einfluß der Streuung von Werkstoffdaten und des Belastungsspektrums auf die Versagenswahrscheinlichkeit studiert, indem für die Verteilungsdichtefunktionen der Festigkeit und der Belastung einfache Modellfunktionen (Gaußverteilung, Deltafunktion) verwendet werden. Es wird gezeigt, daß auch eine scheinbar geringfügige Verminderung der Werkstoffstreuung die Versagenswahrscheinlichkeit um Größenordnungen verringern kann. Im Vergleich zur Werkstoffstreuung ist die Breite des Belastungsspektrums von eher geringer Bedeutung. Bei Werkstoffen mit großer Streuung der Festigkeit (z.B. bei Keramik) ist die Versagenswahrscheinlichkeit daher auch bei sehr großen Sicherheitsbeiwerten relativ hoch. Eine für Konstruktionszwecke hinreichend niedrige Versagenswahrscheinlichkeit kann nur gewährleistet werden, wenn untere Grenzwerte für die Festigkeiten (z.B. durch Maßnahmen der Werkstoffprüfung) sichergestellt werden können. In diesem Sonderfall gewinnt die Breite des Belastungsspektrums wieder großen Einfluß auf die Versagenswahrscheinlichkeit.
