Universidad de los LLanosSostenemos que los clubes de barrio son, por un lado, lugares donde se puede captar y estudiar ciertas prácticas de construcción de identidades -individuales y colectivas-, procesos de subjetivación y sujeción de los individuos, lugares donde en la aparente práctica aséptica de enseñan-za de deportes o juegos se producen fuertes procesos de transmisión de valores y valorizaciones, lugares donde se naturalizan sentidos que no son neutros y ocultan su pertenencia ideológica, donde se acostumbra a los niños y jóvenes a ciertos comportamientos, obediencias, sujeción a normas, y se vivencian ciertos ejercicios de poder, donde también se reproducen y consolidan desigualdades sociales y/o de género. Por otro lado, los clubes de barrio, representan también lugares de esparcimientos y de experiencias de lo colectivo, donde se transforman y se inventan prácticas corporales, donde los sujetos buscan su alteridad y ser aceptados y reconocidos a través de su esfuerzo individual y colectivo, lugares que resisten a ciertos valores dominantes, lugares a donde los sujetos pueden recurrir en busca de lo comunitario, de la solidaridad y de una competencia regulada o limitada por otras normas o valores que están en lo recreativo o lo lúdico. Es decir que los clubes son instituciones donde la política se presenta tanto en la forma de la naturalización y reproducción a un orden social dominante, como donde es posible plantear una política de transformación y crítica a lo dominante Un breve recorrido históricoEntre fines del siglo XIX y principios de siglo XX nacieron en Argentina los clubes de barrio junto con otras instituciones como las bibliotecas populares, los centros de fomento y las ya consolidadas sociedades de inmigrantes que existían desde mediados de siglo XIX.Para realizar un recorrido histórico de la conformación de los clubes de barrio, nos parece pertinente tomar la temporalidad propuesta por Canevá y Mendoza (2007) en la que se reconocen tres períodos: el primero es considerado como "período de emergencia del club social" entre los años 1880 y 1930". En esta etapa encontramos una transformación social de las ciudades haciendo hincapié en la mayor cantidad de habitantes a partir de la afluencia constante durante estos años de inmigrantes provenientes de Europa. Estos fueron los promotores, como ya se mencionó, del fenómeno asociacionista que involucraba a diversas instituciones que iban desde el mutualismo pasando por bibliotecas populares hasta instituciones como los clubes de barrio.La segunda etapa que proponen es la etapa de "esplendor del club social" entre los años . La sociedad argentina de primera mitad de siglo XX se puede caracterizar como una sociedad moderna en formación teniendo en cuenta los ya mencionados movimientos inmigratorios europeos sumando a éstos un nuevo fenómeno como las migraciones internas.
