Weltweit sind über 5500 Thrips-Arten bekannt, von denen ca. 100 bis 150 als ökonomisch bedeutsam eingestuft werden. Über 10 Arten sind gefährliche Vektoren von Tospoviren und schädigen zahlreiche Pflanzen. Ihre Identifikation stellt aufgrund der beschriebenen Situation taxonomischer Forschung vor allem in Europa eine Herausforderung für kommende Generationen dar. Ein möglicher Weg der Konservierung des taxonomischen Wissens der noch verfügbaren Experten besteht in der Erstellung geeigneter Identifikationssoftware in Kombination mit effektiven molekularen Ansätzen der Art-Diagnostik. Im Bereich der Thysanopteren hat sich die Nutzung von LucID2.21 und die Untersuchung der ribosomalen DNA mittels ITS-RFLP Analyse bewährt. Für die Auswertung der molekularen Ergebnisse wird eine Datenbank (SQL & PHP) als eleganter Weg für die online-Auswertung der gewonnenen DNA-Produkte und Fragmentmuster vorgestellt.Stichwörter
