Este artigo busca apresentar os resultados parciais de uma investigação que tem como objetivo interpretar a circulação de ideias e as práticas sociais provenientes do chamado cristianismo da libertação em diferentes regiões do Brasil, entre os anos de 1974 e 1985. No país, a passagem da ditadura militar para um regime pretensamente democrático constituiu-se em um momento decisivo para o ajuste de novas relações políticas. No referido contexto, ritmos temporais dissonantes estiveram em disputa e acabaram fornecendo subsídios que contribuíram para a reconfiguração das esquerdas e de suas plataformas reivindicativas. Essa reconfiguração, no entanto, contou com elementos decisivos do cristianismo da libertação. A partir da segunda metade da década de 1970, temas como a fome, o desemprego, o acesso à moradia e a concentração de renda foram constantemente mobilizados por sujeitos identificados com essa corrente para denunciar o regime militar e projetar um sentido de democracia que almejava viabilizar a superação das injustiças sociais no país. Este artigo, em especial, procura explorar a possível ligação entre os saques protagonizados por setores populares, que ocorreram em setembro e outubro de 1983 em alguns bairros do Rio de Janeiro e de São Paulo, com uma retórica social difundida pelos adeptos do cristianismo da libertação. Os argumentos desenvolvidos neste artigo têm como base uma análise realizada nos dossiês recolhidos no acervo do Serviço Nacional de Informações, assim como em materiais coletados nos periódicos Folha de São Paulo e Jornal do Brasil.
