Compostos canabinoides apresentam propriedades terapêuticas, mas também efeitos psicotrópicos. O canabidiol (CBD) extraído da Cannabis sativa tem sido utilizado em casos de epilepsia, um distúrbio que ocorre no cérebro causado por predisposição genética, como na Síndrome de West. As epilepsias e seus sintomas podem provocar consequências neurobiológicas, cognitivas e psicossociais, sobretudo quando não tratada em tempo hábil e com acompanhamento de um profissional habilitado. Diante do exposto, o presente estudo tem por objetivo realizar uma revisão integrativa, relatando um caso clínico de uma paciente com a Síndrome de West, para avaliar os benefícios do uso do canabidiol no tratamento das crises de epilepsia. Uma revisão integrativa foi realizada a partir de pesquisas em bases de dados eletrônicas, e foi descrito o caso clínico. A administração do CBD ocasionou efeitos benéficos no tratamento coadjuvante a outros antiepiléticos. A paciente foi tratada com CBD por 7 meses e foram constatadas melhorias na interação, apresentou maior percepção e mais esperta na interação com o mundo a sua volta. É fundamental que um profissional capacitado e que compreenda o assunto acompanhe o paciente em cada progressão ou regressão da dose para o controle das crises. Ainda há muito o que estudar sobre o uso do CBD no tratamento da epilepsia, e também sobre a Síndrome de West, pois os efeitos do CBD dependem muito do organismo e o tipo de crise de cada paciente.
