A visible-light-mediated procedure for the unprecedented trifluoromethylchlorosulfonylation of unactivated alkenes is presented. It uses [Cu(dap)2]Cl as catalyst, and contrasts with [Ru(bpy)3]Cl2, [Ir(ppy)2(dtbbpy)]PF6, or eosin Y that exclusively give rise to trifluoromethylchlorination of the same alkenes. It is assumed that [Cu(dap)2]Cl plays a dual role, that is, acting both as an electron transfer reagent as well as coordinating the reactants in the bond forming processes.
Visible light‐mediated decarboxylation using N‐acyloxyphthalimides as the source for carbon‐centered radicals was applied for the synthesis of spirobutenolides. The utility of this approach is demonstrated with the formal synthesis of (S)‐(+)‐lycoperdic acid. Alternatively, 2,3‐anellated furans can be obtained in a one‐pot procedure via photocyclization following a regioselective semipinacol rearrangement.magnified image
A Smiles-type radical rearrangement induced by visible-light-mediated decarboxylation of ω-aryl- N-(acyloxy)phthalimides was developed, giving rise to pharmacologically important substance classes: phenylethylamine derivatives, dihydroisoquinolinones, and benzoazepinones were synthesized on the basis of readily available benzoic acids or benzaldehydes and β- or γ-amino acids. This methodology facilitates the synthesis of enantiopure D-amphetamine and of precursors of capsazepinoid bronchodilators.
Phosphonic acids bearing isoindolin-1-one moiety were synthesized by dehydrative aromatization of the corresponding epoxyisoindolyl phosphonates. A mechanism for the unexpected acid catalyzed dephosphorylation was proposed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
