The microstructre of polymers obtained by y-irradiation of monomer surfactant molecules above the critical micelle concentration (CMC) is investigated by means of 13C NMR spectroscopy. The polymer obtained from the monomer bearing the methacrylate group at the end of the hydrocarbon chain fits the Bernoullian propagation model with P , = 0,18 indicating a highly syndiotactic polymer, whereas that obtained from the monomer having the polymerizable group at the polar head was found to be purely syndiotactic (P, = 0).
Experimental partMonomers 1 and 2, bearing the methacrylate group at the head and the end of the surfactant molecule, respectively, were prepared by methods reported 334) recently. Their structure was 0 1993, Huthig & Wepf Verlag, Basel CCC 0025-1 16X/93/$05.00
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
