Development of a Mach 1. 2 Ra•a Erosion Test Apparatus at the Air Force Materials Laboratory, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, is described. This rotating arm apparatus is capable of evaluating the relative rain erosion resistance of materials and tan be operated at speeds of 450 to 900 mph in a I or 2 inch/hour simulated rainfall. This report describes the design and development of the apparatus including the rotating arm, power train, test enclosure, rain simulation and control systems. Calibration and correlation experiments are also described.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
