Der chronische Alkoholist, der pl6tzlich von Halluzinationen befallen wird, stark zittert, stets Unruhe mit dem Drang sich unaufhSrlich zu bewegen zeigt, seiner eigenen Verh~,ltnisse sich nicht erinnert, und in den meisten Fi~llen eine gewisse Gemfitlichkeit und Gutmfitigkeit der Umgebung gegenfiber bewahrt, gibt ein so typisches Bild von Delirium tremens oder alcoholicum, dab es nur genannt werden muB, um allen, die nur einmal einen solchen Patienten gesehen haben, klar zu sein. Die Krankheit ist deswegen lange gekannt und ihre Schilderung trifft, was die grSberen Zfige im klinischen Bilde anbetrifft, immer noch voll-sti~ndig zu, seitdem z. B. Jacobson 1) die meisten der Symptome sorg-f~ltig untersuchte. Uber neuere Untersuchungen soll nut bemerkt werden, dal~ man gesehen hat, dab der Blutdruck in der Regel um 40-50% herabgesetzt ist, und weiter, dal~ die Anzahl der weiBen BlutkSrperchen w~hrend des Deliriums vergr(il~ert ist, besonders die polynucle~ren Formen. Es gibt aber immer noch recht wesentliche Punkte inbezug auf diese Krankheit, fiber die noch gro6e Unsicherheit und Unklarheit herrscht, namentlich gilt dies yon der Erkl~rung der Entstehungsweise der Krankheit. Keine yon den nicht wenigen aufgestellten Theorien war befriedigend, und besonders war keine yon ihnen mit genfigenden Beweisen versehen. Mit Sicherheit wei6 man, da6 Delirium tremens nur bei chronischen Alkoholisten auftritt, und wesentlich nur bei Bier und Branntwein Trinkenden. Was es aber sein kann, das in einigen F~llen Delirium tremens hervorruft, in andern der Krankheit den Charakter einer der anderen Formen von chronischem Alkoholismus gibt, steht vollst~ndig unaufgekl~rt da.
