Las enfermedades al corazón conocidas como enfermedades cardiacas o coronarias son aquellas que se desarrollan en los vasos sanguíneos, arterias y venas, causando Hipertensión Arterial HTA, anginas, infartos de miocardio. Los riesgos cardiovasculares vienen dados cuando las paredes de los vasos sanguíneos se tapan o se estrechan, produciendo que no haya una buena irrigación de sangre en el organismo. Una forma de reducir estos riesgos es con una alimentación saludable, ejercicio, reduciendo el alcohol y tabaco, obteniendo un menor IMC. El objetivo general de este trabajo es determinar los factores de riesgo cardiovascular en el personal de una unidad educativa particular de la ciudad de Guayaquil en el periodo enero – junio del 2018. La metodología de esta investigación se desarrolló mediante un alcance descriptivo y correlacional, enfoque cuantitativo, de tipo no experimental, transversal. La población de este estudio es de 160 personas entre docentes, administrativos y de mantenimiento pertenecientes a una unidad educativa particular de la ciudad de Guayaquil en el periodo de enero a junio del 2018. La muestra a conveniencia fue de 30 pacientes. Los resultados mostraron que el 30.1% tiene hipertensión arterial, el 60.2% posee niveles de colesterol elevados, el 15.7% de personas tiene diabetes mellitus, el 80.6% refleja sobrepeso y obesidad, el 20.4% realiza deportes, el 85% no realiza ninguna dieta, mientras que el 25.7 fuma cigarrillo. Se concluye que los factores de riesgo cardiovascular son el deporte, la dieta, el IMC y el consumo de cigarrillos, lo cual fue comprobado por medio de la prueba Chi-cuadrado con significancia menor a 0.05.
