Wachdem es uns in der Chinolin-Reihe miiglich g e m e n ist festzustellen, daD je nach der Belastung durch Alkylreste die stickstoff-freie oder die stickstoff-haltige Halfte des C h i n o 1 i n -Molekuls fur die Aufnahme von katalytisch angeregtem Wasserstoff zuganglicher ist I), lag es nahe, die Untersuchung auch auf die Konibination des Benzol-und Pyrrolkerns, wie sie in den I n d o 1 -Verbindungen vorliegt, auszudehnen. Unsere Kenntnisse uber das Verhalten dieser Stoffklasse bei der katalytischen Hydrierung sind noch sehr durftig; denn sie erstrecken sich bloR auf die Stagnmsubstanz der Reihe, das Indo1 selber. Fur dieses zeigten P a d o a und C a r r a s c o 2 ) , daD es nach der Methode von S a b a t i e r und S e nd e r e n s in o-Toluidin iibergefiihrt, zwdfellos a k a im Pyrrolkern angegriffen wird, und W i l l s t a t t e r und J a c q u e t 3 ) stellten fest, daD es rnit Platinmohr und Eisessig bei erschiipfender Hydrierung in, wie sie auf Grund der analytischen Ergebnisse annahmen, reines Perhydro-indol ubergeht und bei genugender Wasserstoff -Zufuhr ein Gemisch von Indol, Dihydro-indol und Perhydro-indol liefert, primar also auch im Pyrrolund nicht im Benzolkern angegriffen wird.Die von uns in der Chinolin-Reihe durchgefuhrten Versuche waren in experimenteller Beziehung deshalb ziemlich einfach gewesen und hatten uns erlaubt, den Hydrierungsvorgang rnit groDer Genauigkeit nach der quantitativen Richtung zu verfolgen, weil die primar durch Tetrahydrierung entstehenden Verbindungen, sowohl die Bzwie die Py-Tetrahydrobasen, bei Gegenwart von Nickel (resp. Nickeloxyd) und unter einem 25Atm. nicht iibersteigenden Wasserstoffdruck sich glucklicherweise als ungemein resistent erwiesen hatten: sie nehmen zwar noch weiter Wasserstoff auf m t e r Bildung von Perhydro-(Dekahydm-)chinolinen, aber dieser Vorgang verlauft aufderst langsam, und das Ende der ersten Phase der Wasserstoff-Aufnahme, der Tetrahydrierung, kann rnit groRer Sichsrheit erkannt werden.Als wir zur Priifung der Verhaltnisse in der Indol-Reihe iibergingen, war demnach die erste Vorfrage, die experimentell beantvvortet werden muRte, die, ob Basen, die durch primare Wasserstoff-Zufihr zum Pyrroloder zum Benzolkern der Indole entstehen konnen, sich unter unseren Arbeitsbedingungen resistent erweisen werden. Fur die Produkte der eventuellen Bz-Hydrierung konnten wir diese Frage durch einige Versuche am P y r r o l und a l k y l i e r t e n P y r r o l e n rnit nein beantworten: sie nehmen relativ leicht, leichter als Pyridin und alkylierte Pyridine, Wasserstoff auf. und dasselbe war daher mit gr6fiter Wahrscheinlichkeit fur Basen zu erwarten, deren weitere Hyvon der Formeldrierung natiirlich im Endresultat zu Perhydro-indolen fuhren mubte.
