Resumo -A obesidade é uma doença crônica que acomete grande parte do mundo, sem distinção entre países desenvolvidos e em desenvolvimento, representando um grave problema de saúde pública. Dentre as patologias associadas à obesidade, pode-se destacar a hipertensão arterial sistêmica (HAS), uma doença silenciosa que impacta a expectativa e qualidade de vida, assim como a depressão, um distúrbio mental com crescente prevalência que compartilha alterações metabólicas e de vias neurológicas com a obesidade. Desse modo, essa pesquisa objetiva revisar estudos sobre o tema, discutindo a fisiopatologia da obesidade, relacionando-a à HAS e refletindo sobre seus elos com a depressão. A metodologia consistiu em revisão de literatura recente existente em bases de dados. Constatou-se que a obesidade é um distúrbio multifatorial, estando ligada a fatores genéticos e hábitos de vida. A HAS, responsável por danos sistêmicos, tem origem favorecida por inflamação e desequilíbrios metabólicos ou vasculares presentes na obesidade. A depressão e a obesidade estão conectadas bidireccionalmente, com distúrbios de vias neuronais e metabólicas favorecendo ambas. Contudo, estudos indicam que a prática de atividades físicas regulares e alimentação saudável podem prevenir a obesidade e HAS, e tratamentos farmacológicos que atuam nas vias compartilhadas de obesidade e depressão podem ser a chave para prognósticos positivos.
