Introdução: Artroplastia de quadril (AQ) é uma técnica que realiza a substituição total ou parcial da articulação do quadril por prótese cimentada e não cimentada. Existem diferentes protocolos de reabilitação no pré e pós-operatório que englobam a marcha, descarga de peso e cinesioterapia. O objetivo deste estudo foi realizar uma revisão da literatura sobre a abordagem fisioterapêutica nos diferentes tipos de AQ. Método: Foi realizada uma revisão bibliográfica compreendida entre o ano de 1993 a 2008, pesquisada no período de agosto de 2008 a abril de 2009, nas bases de dados PubMed, Cochrane, Medline, Lilacs e Scielo. Conclusão: Foi possível observar que a AQ não cimentada apresenta bons resultados e menor incidência de complicações. Os protocolos fisioterapêuticos não entram em um consenso em relação ao tempo exato para a execução dos mesmos, porém podemos afirmar que a fisioterapia é essencial no pré e pós-operatório. É necessário que haja mais estudos relacionados a protocolos específicos que abordem a fisioterapia em diferentes tipos de protetização.Palavras-chave: artroplastia total de quadril, artroplastia parcial de quadril, fisioterapia, reabilitação.
