A pandemia de COVID-19 pôs em questão os riscos de infecções existentes na odontologia. Esta pesquisa se justifica pela necessidade de demonstrar os riscos ocupacionais que as gotículas e aerossóis oferecem ao cirurgião-dentista. O estudo objetiva analisar a dispersão das gotículas aerossóis em ambiente odontológico e a eficácia dos EPIs. Foram usadas simulações de um procedimento em um consultório revestido por TNT branco, com a água do reservatório corada com corante alimentício e dois modelos fazendo o papel de atendente e paciente. Para manter a simulação mais próxima à realidade, dois dispositivos feitos de resina acrílica foram sobrepostos a arcada do paciente. As etapas foram fotografadas para registro de dados, análise e comparações futuras. Após a simulação, foram encontrados respingos no TNT que revestia o piso, na mesa do consultório e na cuspideira. No equipamento de proteção individual utilizado pelo atendente foi onde se observou a maior concentração de respingos, principalmente no avental descartável e no protetor facial. A capacidade de dispersão de gotículas e aerossóis foi evidenciada no presente estudo. As gotículas e aerossóis representam um risco para saúde do cirurgião-dentista. Os cuidados com biossegurança devem compor o cotidiano dos profissionais.
