É fundamental reconhecer a Avaliação de Ciclo de Vida (ACV) e seu uso na identificação e estudo de oportunidades de minimização do consumo de recursos e poluição. No Brasil, uma dificuldade na aplicação e difusão da metodologia de ACV é, ainda, a deficiência de inventários de produtos prioritários para o Banco Nacional de Inventários do Ciclo de Vida (SICV Brasil) com informações representativas das suas diferentes regiões. Foi desta lacuna que surgiu a motivação deste estudo que se propõe servir na ampliação do SICV Brasil. O principal objetivo foi eleger uma lista de produtos a serem prioritariamente inventariados para o banco de dados de ACV brasileiro, baseando-se no Princípio da Sustentabilidade. Identificaram-se 11 critérios de sustentabilidade a partir dos Indicadores de Desenvolvimento Sustentável e de temas mais abordados em ACV. Cada um desses critérios gerou uma Lista Inicial de produtos que resultou em uma Lista Única com 55 produtos mais relevantes para o Brasil. Posteriormente, elegeu-se uma Lista Prioritária com 19 produtos. A Soja aparece como o produto mais importante para o país, em sequencia o arroz, café, milho, trigo, algodão, cana de açúcar, celulose, feijão, gado, petróleo, aço.
