Eighteen racemic 8.O.4'-neolignans with six different substitution patterns in rings A and B, in their ketone and in their erythro and threo alcoholic forms, were evaluated for antifungal activity by the agar dilution method. Only the alcohols exhibited a broad spectrum of activities against Microsporum canis, Microsporum gypseum, Tricophyton mentagrophytes, Tricophyton rubrum, and Epidermophyton floccosum. (+/-)-erythro-3,4-(methylenedioxy) -7-hydroxy-1'-allyl-3',5'-dimethoxy-8.O.4'-neolignan (11) was the most active compound in the series, and E. floccosum was the most susceptible species.
The kinetics of aggregation of para-casein micelles
(pCM) and of heated para-casein micelles
(HpCM)
were studied and compared by estimating the initial rate of aggregation
from the initial rate of
turbidity increase. Aggregation of both pCM and
HpCM suspensions appeared as cases of slow
Brownian flocculation, with a steric contribution to the suspension's
stability which could explain
their aggregation behavior, including the presence of the Berridge
effect at low temperatures.
Glycerol addition to the medium, besides the reduction in
aggregation rate by increase of medium
viscosity, produced an initial aggregation rate increase, probably by
interaction with the proteins
of the micelle external layer. The differences observed between
pCM and HpCM aggregation rate
could be related to the changes introduced by high heating in the
surface structure of the micelles.

Teachers are a fundamental resource in the teaching-learning process and in many cases they represent important emotional role models for students. Nevertheless, occasionally their performance may diminish as a result of different psychosocial factors. Thus, teachers' psychological well being is imperative in the practice of the profession. The object of the present study was to determine the relation between burnout and psychological well-being in teachers of three different private establishments in Guatemala City, during 2019. The sample consisted of 68 individuals, both male and female, belonging to all school levels, ages 18 to 69. The study used a quantitative correlational approach, applying Maslach's Burnout Inventory and Ryffś Psychological Well Being Scale. The result was a negative correlation between these two variables, with magnitude of moderate association at 99 % (r = -.482, p < .001). Among the most important findings were the low levels of labor burnout, whereas the dimension of emotional exhaustion was high. Most teachers presented a high level in the general psychological well being index, with higher scores in environmental mastery and in life purpose, in contrast to self-acceptance, which showed low and medium levels.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
