Corruption has disastrous consequences for the well-being of societies. In particular, public procurement is a highly vulnerable factor due to the high value of its transactions. This research analyzes the role that information technologies can play in the fight against corruption. We developed a case based on open data on public procurement in Costa Rica to identify the main concepts associated with the underlying information system. The case shows the potential of technological tools for social network analysis to counter the complexity of corruption networks. It also shows the need for a rich ecosystem of anti-corruption data - preferably in an open format.
Advances in information technology are digitizing health areas to improve medical services, diagnoses, and continuous monitoring. These technologies have improved distributed systems’ security, reliability, and robustness. This digitization enhances the ease of calculating, storing, and accessing medical records, enabling better patient treatment experiences. However, it risks cyber-attacks, security, and privacy issues for data. In this article, we propose a reliable model based on Blockchain and the Internet of Medical Things, allowing the patient to provide consent to obtain and the option to share their medical records, getting more incredible speed when scheduling a consultation or receiving a treatment. In a Post COVID-19 era, this can take the steps for new strategic policies that offer people a more competitive system of social benefit in health and one of many avenues that help the prosperity of citizens in a world in crisis.
Through the descriptive analysis on the Open Data of the Costa Rican Judicial Power, alarming results are reflected in the number of complaints imposed in the Judicial Investigation Organism (OIJ), exceeding fifty thousand complaints in 2019. Based on those numbers, the objective for this research is to generate a data analysis model that allows to potentiate these statistics and to indicate in advance the regions with the most remarkable propensity to suffer crimes in the next five years, to promote the proactivity of both the citizen and the police to be alerted and to avoid upcoming crimes. Statistical prediction models are used to prove mathematical methods applicable to the data obtained and their behavior during 2015-2019. The analysis reflects the need to apply the simple linear regression algorithm to the developed solution available to all Costa Ricans on the Tableau Public website. The results show pessimistic predictions for the country, especially in the Greater Metropolitan Area (GAM); the behavior of crimes will significantly impact this area, which indicates the need to establish police strengthening programs improvements in education and employment to counter the potential crimes projected for the next five years
