Introdução: A utilização do balão intragástrico (BIG) vem ganhando espaço no tratamento da obesidade, por se tratar de um procedimento temporário, minimamente invasivo, apresentar baixo risco para o paciente e impacto significativo na perda de peso. Atualmente dispomos de dois tipos de BIG, os não ajustáveis (permanência média de 6 meses) e os ajustáveis (tempo médio de permanência de 12 meses). Uma das vantagens do dispositivo ajustável é a possibilidade de alterar o seu volume, podendo contribuir para uma menor taxa de retirada precoce devido à intolerância do paciente. Objetivo: Analisar a perda de peso dos pacientes que utilizaram o balão intragástrico ajustável por doze meses. Metodologia: Estudo retrospectivo utilizando dados de 60 pacientes que foram submetidos à colocação de BIG ajustável em dois centros privados de endoscopia digestiva em Curitiba-PR, no período de janeiro de 2015 a junho de 2017. Os dados foram analisados e comparados para avaliar a perda de peso (em kg) e a perda do excesso de peso (em %). A análise estatística foi realizada usando-se o modelo de análise de covariância (ANCOVA), teste não paramétrico de Mann-Whitney, e teste de KolmogorovSmirnov, com nível de significância estatística estabelecido em p<0,05, através do software IBM SPSS Statistics v.20. Resultados: Entre os 60 pacientes que utilizaram o balão intragástrico ajustável, 12 foram excluídos devido a retirada precoce (2 pacientes apresentaram úlcera gástrica, 2 devido a vazamento do dispositivo e 8 devido a intolerância). O período médio utilizando o dispositivo foi de 12,3 meses, o volume médio inicial aproximado foi de 550ml e o final de 660ml (em 32 pacientes o volume inicial foi aumentado uma vez -média de 137ml). O dispositivo demonstrou considerável redução na perda de peso dos pacientes após a sua retirada (redução média de 11,9kg no peso, 39,8% do excesso de peso e diminuição média de 4,1kg/m² no IMC). Conclusão: O uso do balão intragástrico ajustável mostrou ser eficaz na perda de peso. O seu uso é uma opção viável no tratamento da obesidade nos pacientes que não desejam realizar procedimentos invasivos, principalmente se aliado à mudança do estilo de vida. Porém são necessários mais estudos e acompanhamento a longo prazo destes pacientes para confirmação da eficácia desta opção terapêutica.
