A grande demanda mundial por acrilonitrila, combinada à necessidade crescente de processos mais sustentáveis e competitivos, tem motivado a constante melhoria do processo de obtenção, assim como a busca por matérias-primas mais sustentáveis. Assim, foi realizado um estudo de prospecção científica e tecnológica acerca desse tema com o intuito de compreender o atual cenário, principalmente no que diz respeito ao emprego das principais matérias-primas citadas na literatura. Para tanto, os artigos foram pesquisados na base do Science Direct e, para patentes, foi utilizada a base Espacenet. A prospecção de patentes foi realizada utilizando o código de indexação C07B e as palavras referentes à acrilonitrila. Constatou-se que a maioria dos artigos e patentes são focados na melhoria dos catalisadores e condições reacionais, tendo propano e propeno como matérias-primas mais abordadas. Poucas publicações abordaram a produção de acrilonitrila a partir de insumos renováveis, como glicerol, indicando que esse tipo de processo ainda está pouco consolidado tecnologicamente.
