A implementação de infraestrutura viária que promova a multimodalidade de transportes tem-se mostrado uma importante ferramenta ao planejamento urbano e ao desenvolvimento das cidades. Entretanto, na maioria dos casos, os traçados que a configuram não apresentam os requisitos normativos mínimos de declividade e largura viária estabelecidos pela AASHTO e MCID para a implantação de infraestrutura favorável a multimodalidade. Assim, torna-se necessário a realização de adequações construtivas no ambiente urbano. Portanto, esta pesquisa objetivou verificar algumas das dimensões geométricas no traçado de uma via arterial, com a finalidade de considerar seu potencial à movimentação viária por meio de transportes ativos e motorizados. Neste contexto, elaborou-se um estudo de caso condicionado a avaliar as grandezas físicas de um trecho de 5 km de extensão da BR-497, localizada na área urbana do município de Uberlândia/MG. Foram consideradas as variáveis referentes as parametrizações de declividade e largura da faixa de rolamento. Estas foram obtidas por meio de imagens orbitais de alta resolução. Posteriormente, os dados parametrizados foram avaliados estatisticamente e espacializados em ambiente SIG (Sistemas de informações geográficas). Os resultados obtidos sugerem que o trecho viário urbano da BR-497 apresenta pontos passíveis de modificação quanto às configurações geométricas de design urbano e serviços sustentáveis.
