A adsorção de cobre e cádmio por ácidos húmicos extraídos do composto de resíduo urbano (AH-CRU) e lodo da estação de tratamento de esgoto (AH-LETE) foi estudada através de isotermas de adsorção a pH 5,5. Foi observada grande capacidade das substâncias húmicas em adsorver os íons metálicos. A adsorção de cobre obedeceu ao modelo de Langmuir com a adsorção máxima de 55,5g de Cu2+kg-1 de AH-LETE e de 45,9g de Cu2+kg-1 de AH-CRU. A adsorç ão de Cd2+ ajustou-se melhor ao modelo de Freundlich. Através de espectros de infravermelho, foi observada a participação de grupos COO-, OH e N-H na adsorção de cobre e cádmio pelos ácidos húmicos.
