Streptococcus equi subspecies equi is involved in human infection. We present a case of meningitis in a 75-year-old patient with a favorable outcome after ceftriaxone and dexamethasone therapy. To our knowledge, it is the first case reported in an adult.
Rhombencephalitis is not a rare presentation of listerial central nervous system infections in healthy adults. This report describes a case with several management difficulties linked to antibiotic related adverse events, pointing to alternative solutions to aminopenicillins. In addition, the role of dexamethasone in the management of inflammation and neurological symptoms is discussed.
Liver abscess was diagnosed in a man presenting with fever, chills and severe myopathy. The K. pneumoniae isolated from blood cultures belonged to the K1 serotype. The patient responded favourably to percutaneous drainage of the abscess and antibiotics. This is the first documented report of Klebsiella pneumoniae liver abscess syndrome (KLAS) described in Romania and may indicate the emergence of this syndrome in Eastern Europe.
