SYNOPSISRational expressions for the free-discharge characteristics of a two-dimensional broad-crested weir with square entry-edge are derived by the application of boundary layer theory to a simplified model of the flow mechanism. The theoretical predictions are shown to accord well with available experimental data. Extensions of the basic theory to embrace the effects of a rounded entry-edge, side walls, etc. are discussed. This new analysis should provide a basis for the establishment of a comprehensive theoretical treatment for open-channel metering devices of the long-structure type.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
