The influence of the polymerization temperature on the stereoregularity and cristallinity of polyvinylchloride is examined. The crystallizable stereoregular sequences are syndiotactic, and formed by more than four or five monomer units. The relationshin between molecular weight and polymerization temperature is determined for polyvinylbromide prepared by heterogeneous bulk polymerization and for polymethylmethacrylate prepared by heterogeneous polymerization in the presence of a precipitant. The results of this work seem to support the suggestion recently developed, that the unusual dependence of the molecular weight on the polymerization temperature, found for some polymers obtained under heterogeneous conditions, is mainly due to structural variations in the products.
A method for the rapid determination of the @-conditions of polymer solutions is proposed. According to this method the @-conditions are determined by using an equation, obtained theoretically, which relates the temperature (for binary systems) or composition (for ternary systems) for incipient phase separation, to the molecular weight of the polymer. The values of the @-conditions obtained using this method are in very good agreement with that determined by other methods.
synopsisThe NMR spectrum of polyacrylonitrile is interpreted and the tacticity of three polyacrylonitrile samples prepared at dserent temperatures in the range from -78 to 120OC. determined. The ratio between isotactic and syndiotactic units is about 50:50 for all the three samples examined.
the vinyl chloride polymerization in 1.2-dichloroethane solution a t 50 O C .The monomer (CM) and solvent (Cs) transfer constants were determined by a study of It was found the value of 1.1.10-3 for CM and the value of 4.5.10-4 for Cs. The value of CM, here determined, is compared with those reported by other authors and obtained from polymerization experiments carried out in bulk under heterogeneous conditions.
