Translation submitted by E.A. Inglis One of the ways of improving rubber production is to use ingredients having polyfunctional properties in elastomer compositions. These include azomethines, which can simultaneously show the properties of vulcanisation accelerators, stabilisers and adhesion-enhancing additives [1-9]. In order to study the effect of the chemical structure of azomethines on their ability to show polyfunctional properties we synthesised derivatives of mphenoxybenzaldehyde [10 and 11): 3'phenoxybenzylideneaniline (1), 3-nitro-3'phenoxybenzylideneaniline (2), 4-nitro-3'phenoxybenmzylideneaniline (3) and 4-methoxy-3'phenoxybenzylideneaniline (4).

hydrazines. -Condensation of m-phenoxybenzaldehyde (I) with aromatic amines (II) and hydrazines (IV) gives the corresponding Schiff bases (III) or hydrazones (V), resp., which are promising as biologically active substances, polyfunctional additives to rubber compounds, and inhibitors of acid corrosion. -(POPOV, YU.
