A hepatite A trata-se da infecção causada por um vírus RNA classificado como sendo dafamília Picornavirus, transmitida por via fecal-oral e que atinge mais frequentemente criançase adolescentes. Esta patologia continua a ser um problema de saúde pública para associedades. O município de Santarém, no Pará, acumula características que marcam grandeparte do território nacional e uma delas é o crescimento urbano mal planejado que leva apopulação a habitar em moradias insalubres favorecendo, assim, a transmissibilidade dedoenças. Esse trabalho objetivou identificar o perfil epidemiológico dos pacientes comhepatite A no Município de Santarém nos anos de 2010 a 2015, além de elencar o sexo maisacometido pela doença; zona de residência, evolução clínica e faixa etária com maiorprevalência. Realizou-se uma pesquisa documental a partir do banco de dados da SecretariaMunicipal de Saúde (SEMSA) sobre hepatite A no período de 2010 a 2015. De 2010 a 2015houve um registro de um total de 437 casos de Hepatite A no munícipio de Santarém. Ahepatite A aguda foi predominante em todos os anos em 98,86% dos casos (432). Sabe-seque a hepatite A não cronifica, logo, uma possível explicação para isso é que pode ter sidoregistrado como hepatite A crônica, hepatites de origem medicamentosa ou que, ainda,possam ter acontecido casos incomuns de hepatites auto-imunes, que ocorrem por defeitosnos linfócitos T supressores, ao contato com o vírus A, desenvolvendo hepatite crônica . Osdados de zona de residência indicaram que o maior percentual de afetados foi o de populaçãoque reside em zona urbana (65,9%). Com relação ao sexo dos pesquisados, 242 casos emindivíduos do sexo masculino, correspondendo a 55% do total, para 195 do sexo feminino(45%). Nota-se que há pouca diferença de ocorrência de casos entre os sexos, o que écondizente com os dados apresentados no Boletim Epidemiológico das Hepatites Virais. Amaioria dos casos, 65,9% (288) se concentra na faixa etária de 5 a 19 anos. Diante darealidade santarena este trabalho apresentou dados a fim de que possam surgir estratégias paraum controle efetivo com base na prevenção da referida patologia
