Protection O 0345Tris (pentafluorophenyl)borane: A Mild and Efficient Catalyst for the Chemoselective Tritylation of Alcohols. -The tritylation of alcohols with triphenylmethanol (II) in the presence of tris(pentafluorophenyl)borane catalyst proceeds with excellent chemoselectivity. Thus, primary alcohols are protected in the presence of secondary hydroxyl groups [cf. (VII)], aliphatic alcohols in the presence of phenols [cf. (V)]. Additionally, a wide range of hydroxy protecting groups as well as acid-and base-labile functional groups remain intact under the reaction conditions. -(REDDY*, C. R.; RAJESH, G.; BALAJI, S.
