L’étude présentée dans cet article pose les problèmes d’intégration des infirmières récemment diplômées au monde du travail hospitalier sous l’angle d’une différence de culture entre deux univers de socialisation ; normes de comportement et culture plutôt réflexives dans les écoles (accent mis sur l’analyse, les connaissances, l’argumentation des actions de soins…), et plutôt instrumentales dans les hôpitaux (accent mis sur l’efficacité, l’organisation du travail, l’opérationnalité…). Une enquête par entretiens avec de jeunes diplômées de différentes écoles (questions ouvertes, semi-ouvertes et fermées) permet d’analyser successivement les compétences qu’elles considèrent avoir acquises à l’école, celles qu’elles pensent requises par l’hôpital, et les différences qu’elles perçoivent entre hôpital et école quant aux compétences valorisées. Les résultats montrent un important décalage entre l’idéal des infirmières interrogées et la réalité de leur travail dans les contraintes institutionnelles de l’hôpital.
