PALAbRAs cLAveFactores de riesgo; cáncer; Próstata; México. ResumenIntroducción: en México, la población masculina presenta una elevada mortalidad por tumor de próstata seguido por los tumores de tráquea, bronquios y pulmón. Objetivo: Identificar la presencia de los factores de riesgo que predisponen a desarrollar cáncer de próstata en hombres de 35 a 65 años, del municipio de Miahuatlán de Porfirio Díaz, Oaxaca. Método: El estudio fue descriptivo transversal. La muestra fue de 100 personas del sexo masculino. El muestreo fue no probabilístico de tipo convencional. Se aplicó la "Cédula de factores que predisponen a desarrollar cáncer de próstata". el estudio se llevó a cabo de acuerdo a la Ley General de Salud. Para el análisis de los datos se utilizó el programa estadístico SPSS. Resultados: Se identificó al sobrepeso y obesidad como factores de riesgo. Discusión: Los factores de riesgo presentes fueron el sobrepeso y obesidad, lo cual coincide con Ferris et al. y salas et al., quienes consideran que esta condición guarda una relación con el metabolismo que pueden conducir a un riesgo neoplásico, sin embargo la sociedad Americana del cáncer, demuestra que la obesidad está asociada a un aumento en la mortalidad por cáncer, especialmente en tumores de hígado y páncreas en el hombre. Conclusión: El sobrepeso y la obesidad son factores de riesgo. Es necesario inculcar una cultura de responsabilidad individual en los hombres, encaminadas a la detección de algún síntoma que indique riesgos del posible desarrollo de cáncer de próstata.
