We investigate theDN interaction at low energies using a meson-exchange model supplemented with a short-distance contribution from one-gluon-exchange. The model is developed in close analogy to the meson-exchange KN interaction of the Jülich group utilizing SU(4) symmetry constraints. The main ingredients of the interaction are provided by vector meson (ρ, ω) exchange and higher-order box diagrams involvingD * N ,D∆, andD * ∆ intermediate states. The short range part is assumed to receive additional contributions from genuine quark-gluon processes. The predicted cross sections forDN for excess energies up to 150 MeV are of the same order of magnitude as those for KN but with average values of around 20 mb, roughly a factor two larger than for the latter system. It is found that the ω-exchange plays a very important role. Its interference pattern with the ρ-exchange, which is basically fixed by the assumed SU(4) symmetry, clearly determines the qualitative features of theDN interaction -very similiar to what happens also for the KN system. Although asymptotic freedom is an essential feature of QCD, it is absent in effective chiral quark models like the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio and linear sigma models. In this work we advocate that asymptotic freedom plays a key role in the recently observed discrepancies between results of lattice QCD simulations and quark models regarding the behavior of the pseudocritical temperature T pc for chiral-symmetry restoration in the presence of a magnetic field B. We show that the lattice predictions that T pc decreases with B can be reproduced within the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model if the coupling constant G of the model decreases with B and the temperature. Without aiming at numerical precision, we support our claim by considering a simple ansatz for G that mimics the asymptotic-freedom behavior of the QCD coupling constant 1/α s ∼ ln(eB/ 2 QCD ) for large values of B.

Chiral effective field theory is utilized for extrapolating results on the ΛcN interaction, obtained in lattice QCD at unphysical (large) quark masses, to the physical point. The pion-mass dependence of the components that constitute the ΛcN potential up to next-to-leading order (pion-exchange diagrams and four-baryon contact terms) is fixed by information from lattice QCD simulations. No recourse to SU(3) or SU(4) flavor symmetry is made. It is found that the results of the HAL QCD Collaboration for quark masses corresponding to mπ = 410-570 MeV imply a moderately attractive ΛcN interaction at mπ = 138 MeV with scattering lengths of a ≈ −1 fm for the 1 S0 as well as the 3 S1 partial waves. For such an interaction the existence of a charmed counterpart of the hypertriton seems unlikely but four-and/or five-baryons systems with a Λc baryon could be indeed bound.PACS. 14.20.Lq Charmed baryons (|C| > 0, B=0) -12.39.Fe Chiral Lagrangians -13.75.Ev Hyperonnucleon interactions -21.30.Fe Forces in hadronic systems and effective interactions

The q 2 dependence of the ρ − ω mixing amplitude is analyzed with the use of the QCD sum rules and the dispersion relation. Going off shell the mixing decreases, changes sign at q 2 ≃ 0.4m 2 ρ > 0 and is negative in the space like region. Implications of this result to the isospin breaking part of the nuclear force are discussed.

A model of the DN interaction is presented which is developed in close analogy to the meson-exchangeKN potential of the Jülich group utilizing SU(4) symmetry constraints. The coupling of DN to the πΛc and πΣc channels is taken into account. The interaction model generates the Λc(2595) resonance dynamically as a DN quasi-bound state. Results for DN total and differential cross sections are presented and compared with predictions of an interaction model that is based on the leading-order Weinberg-Tomozawa term. Some features of the Λc(2595) resonance are discussed and the role of the near-by πΣc threshold is emphasized. Selected predictions of the orginalKN model are reported too. Specifically, it is pointed out that the model generates two poles in the partial wave corresponding to the Λ(1405) resonance.PACS. 14.40.Lb Charmed mesons -13.75.Jz Kaon-baryon interactions -12.39.Pn Potential models

We construct the Pomeron as an exchange of two nonperturbative gluons, where the nonperturbative gluon propagator is described by an approximate solution of the Schwinger-Dyson equation which contains a dynamically generated gluon mass. We compute the total and elastic differential (der/dt) cross sections for pp scattering, obtaining agreement with the experimental data for a gluon mass m = 370 MeV for AgcD --300 MeV

Understanding the origin and dynamics of hadron structure and in turn that of atomic nuclei is a central goal of nuclear physics. This challenge entails the questions of how does the roughly 1 GeV mass-scale that characterizes atomic nuclei appear; why does it have the observed value; and, enigmatically, why are the composite Nambu-Goldstone (NG) bosons in quantum chromodynamics (QCD) abnormally light in comparison? In this perspective, we provide an analysis of the mass budget of the pion and proton in QCD; discuss the special role of the kaon, which lies near the boundary between dominance of strong and Higgs mass-generation mechanisms; and explain the need for a coherent effort in QCD phenomenology and continuum calculations, in exa-scale computing as provided by lattice QCD, and in experiments to make progress in understanding the origins of hadron masses and the distribution of that mass within them. We compare the unique capabilities foreseen at the electron-ion collider (EIC) with those at the hadron-electron ring accelerator (HERA), the arXiv:1907.08218v2 [nucl-ex] Rikutaro Yoshida (ryoshida@jlab.org) INTRODUCTIONAtomic nuclei lie at the core of everything we can see; and at the first level of approximation, their atomic weights are simply the sum of the masses of all the neutrons and protons (nucleons) they contain. Each nucleon has a mass m N ∼ 1 GeV, i.e. approximately 2000-times the electron mass. The Higgs boson produces the latter, but what produces the masses of the neutron and proton? This is the crux: the vast majority of the mass of a nucleon is lodged with the energy needed to hold quarks together inside it; and that is supposed to be explained by QCD, the strong-interaction piece within the Standard Model.QCD is unique. It is a fundamental theory with the capacity to sustain massless elementary degrees-of-freedom, viz. gluons and quarks; yet gluons and quarks are predicted to acquire mass dynamically [1][2][3], and nucleons and almost all other hadrons likewise, so that the only massless systems in QCD are its composite NG bosons [4,5], e.g. pions and kaons. Responsible for binding systems as diverse as atomic nuclei and neutron stars, the energy associated with the gluons and quarks within these Nambu-Goldstone (NG) modes is not readily apparent. This is in sharp and fascinating contrast with all other "everyday" hadronic bound states, viz. systems constituted from up = u, down = d, and/or strange = s quarks, which possess nuclear-size masses far in excess of anything that can directly be tied to the Higgs boson. 1

We consider some implications of confinement starting from the basic observation that cross-sections for the production of colored asymptotic states, such as free quarks and gluons, from color singlet initial states must be zero if QCD is to be confining. We discuss two pictures of confinement: the failure of the cluster decomposition property and the absence of a pole at timelike momenta in the propagator of a confined particle. We use QCD-based models as a framework to relate the failure of the cluster decomposition property to other ideas, such as the role of a nonzero gluon condensate. Our primary interest is to address the question of the absence of a mass pole through a study of model Schwinger-Dyson equations. These equations contain some of the dynamical information that is present in the study of the cluster decomposition property. We discuss the problems with this idea and its study using the Schwinger-Dyson equations.
