Fig. 6-Crack in carbide beginning to penetrate into matrix. X1890. Area increased approximately 50 pct for reproduction. It was found that a critical boron content exists which yields the maximum boronhardenability effect in hypoeutectoid steels, as was predicted from the mechanism proposed in a previous paper. The hardenability of boron steels with boron contents between 0.00005 and 0.0017 pet was dependent on the boron content, austenitizing temperature, quenching temperature, and austenite grain size. The effects of these variables on. hardenability can be explained by the mechanism previously proposed for the boron effeet.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
