Synthesis and high-temperature transformations of crosslinked polymers of the methacrylic ester of 4-vinyl-4'-(l-hydroxyethyl)diphenyloxide 13. A. ZAITSEV, C. I. KHRAMOVA, T. S. TSYGANKOVA, I. 0. GUSAROVA and S. V. LUKASOVAcademjof Sciences of USSR, Institute of Macromolecular Compounds, 199 004 Leningrad, USSH I R spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry were used to establish that by prolonged heating of mcthacrylic ester of 4-vinyl-4'-(1-hydroxyethyl)diphenyloxide a t 140 to 170 O C a highly crosslinked polymer is formed. Its transverse ester bridges are broken a t 170 to 190°C with the formation of methacrylic acid units and vinyl side groups. I t is shown that thermal treatment of t h e polymcr a t 190 t o 250°C results in polycyclization of neighbouring groups and post-crosslinking of polymer chains.
