We present some historical, epidemiological, statistical data for heart echinococcosis and concomitant lesions of different organs. The diagnosis of heart echinococcosis is based on revealing of the cyst and its identification with echinococcus. The value of different diagnostic methods is shown. A surgical procedure in patients with heart echinococcosis depends on the localization of the cysts (manipulations under cardiopulmonary bypass or off-pump procedure). We present some additional techniques for prophylaxis of recurrence.
The article presents literature review about surgical treatment of liver hydatidosis. Particular attention is paid to the development of percutaneous treatment. Also modern trend of surgical treatment are described. We presented results of percutaneous treatment of liver hydatidosis in our clinic. We analized them and made the conclusion that percutaneous treatment is effective and safe method for liver hydatidosis. To reduce the risk of recurrence we have to do it right and all patients must take anti-relapse chemotherapy.
Musculoskeletal system is rarely involved by hydatid cyst, the larvalform of Echinococcus granulosus. Two cases of intramuscular hydatid cysts within thigh musculature are being reported with the intent of highlighting this atypical localization of the disease. Preoperative computerized tomography suggested an unusual location of echinococcus. Since the soft tissue tumors may be confused with hydatid cysts, preoperative evaluation of these patients is critical for proper handling during surgery to avoid life-threatening complications. Surgical excision with postoperative antihelmenthics formed the main modality. These cases emphasize that especially in endemic areas to avoid fine-needle biopsy and the risk of spillage of cyst contents hydatidosis should be included in differential diagnosis of any soft tissue mass.
The article describes a clinical case of a child with hepatic focal nodular hyperplasia. The obtained good result is confirmed with clinical data and instrumental studies. This allows us to assume safely that radical surgery is possible in these patients.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
