International audienceWe report an alternative mechanism for the physical origin of the temperature-dependent ferromagnetic relaxation of Permalloy (NiFe) thin films. Through spin-pumping experiments, we demonstrate that the peak in the temperature-dependence of NiFe damping can be understood in terms of enhanced spin angular momentum absorption at the magnetic phase transition in antiferromagnetic surface-oxidized layers. These results suggest new avenues for the investigation of an incompletely-understood phenomenon in physics
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
