A simple technique to realize two different sets of optical detection cells for chemical analysis is described. Hot embossing is an attractive technique for the prototyping and fabrication of microfluidic channels or networks in polymers. The first design presented is completely realized in poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) to produce a fully transparent cell for light transmission measurements in the ultraviolet and visible range. The second cell design is a combination of PMMA and silicon. The latter material is used as a reflective back surface useful for fluorescence or phosphorescence measurements.
