Carl Sagan RESUMO O processo de soldagem por atrito e mistura linear (SALM) ou Friction Stir Welding (FSW) foi desenvolvido por Thomas Wayne no The Welding Institute (TWI) em 1991, trazendo como característica principal o fato de se dar sem que o material a ser soldado atinja o seu ponto de fusão. O SALM vem sendo amplamente estudado com grande foco na indústria aeronáutica e aeroespacial, em ligas de alumínio da série AA 7XXX que antes não eram soldáveis por métodos convencionais. Este trabalho foca no estudo e comparação características mecânicas de chapas de alumínio dissimilares AA7181 -T7651 e AA7475 -T7351 de 12 mm de espessura, soldadas pelo processo de FSW através dos métodos por carretel, superior, inferior e duplo passe. Após soldagem das chapas, com parâmetros predefinidos e indicados pela literatura, foram retirados corpos de prova para posterior análise e ensaios. Foram realizados ensaios como o de tensão residual pelo método do furo cego, microdureza Vickers e análise metalográfica. Foi observado na medição de dureza uma distribuição característica em forma de "W", onde o maior valor de dureza encontrado foi de 190 HV para o método superior, inferior e duplo passe, enquanto que o menor valor encontrado foi de 115 HV para o método do carretel. A análise de tensões residuais revelou que o método do carretel leva aos menores valores de tensões residuais trativas, com um máximo de 185 MPa e o método de duplo passe leva aos maiores valores de tensões residuais trativas, com um máximo de 233 MPa.
