INTRODUCCIÓNLos cambios de actitudes, comportamientos y costumbres que se van produciendo con el tiempo en la sociedad y por tanto en la población que atiende un profesional de Atención Primaria, determinan la aparición de diferentes formas de enfermar o la modificación de la incidencia o la prevalencia de otras patologías ya conocidas. En algunos casos entidades que hasta el momento se consideraban "raras", y por tanto no bien conocidas por los profesionales sanitarios, van poco a poco teniendo más relevancia. Un ejemplo de estos cambios lo constituye el cáncer epidermoide de lengua.El carcinoma de células escamosas de cabeza y cuello es un tumor epitelial maligno muy agresivo que constituye la sexta neoplasia más común en nuestros días 1 . Aproximadamente el 50% se localizan en la lengua 2 . Los datos obtenidos en estudios para determinar la localización anatómica realizados en España son similares con un 56,7% de casos localizados en labio inferior y un 38,8% de casos localizados en la lengua 3 . Generalmente este tumor afecta a individuos de mediana edad o ancianos que han sido bebedores y/o fumadores 4,5 .
