The basic form of thermal-engineering equipment in refractory production is tunnel kilns~ in which more than 80% of refractory parts are fired. The wide use of these kilns in domestic and foreign practice may be explained by their high technical and econimic indices and the use in them of the highly effective principle of counterflow recuperative heat exchange between the gases and the parts [l].However, the tunnel kilns used in production possess disadvantages caused by shortcomings in one or another element of their design. A serious problem, in particular, is reliable sealing of the hearth in order to eliminate gas exchange between the working space and the atmosphere at the joints of the kiln cars, the knife-edges, and through the kiln doors (in normally used kilns with a car bottom).Gas exchange is reflected negatively on the quality and cost
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
