The combination of the modulation of intensity by zero effort (MIEZE) technique and ellipsoidal neutron-focusing supermirrors enables us to perform a neutron spin echo experiment for tiny samples with high energy resolution. We successfully identified time-offlight MIEZE (TOF-MIEZE) signals for neutrons elastically scattered at the sample under a focused geometry using ellipsoidal supermirrors. The effective frequency of the TOF-MIEZE signal was 108 kHz. The Fourier time range was covered from 0.48 to 5.3 ns using the TOF technique with neutron wavelengths from 0.65 to 1.45 nm.
Boron neutron caputure therapy (BNCT) is a promising treatment for invasive tumors. The BNCT utilizes the energy deposition by alpha particle and 7 Li created by the neutron capture reaction of 10 B. One of the problem of BNCT is the imaging of 10 B distribution during the treatment. The gamma rays with the energy of 0.478 MeV emitted by 7 Li can be exploited for this purpose. The photon counting of the gamma rays, however, is very difficult due to the high gamma ray background caused by 2.22 MeV gamma rays originated by the neutron reactions with 1 H. To overcome this difficulty, the authors propose a method to measure gamma rays as electric current by a "transXend" detector, which had been invented by them for energy-resolved X-ray computed tomography. In this paper, the feasibility study on 10 B distribution imaging in a water phantom with a tumor region is shown by simulation studies. For establishing the relationship between electric currents induced in the transXend detector by gamma rays and 10 B concentration, the attenuation of gamma rays by the phantom should be taken into account. For this purpose, a neural network was employed. The results showed good agreement with the training data used for the neural network.

Neutron moderation properties from the cold mesitylene moderator have been studied. Kyoto University Accelerator driven Neutron Source has been used for these experiments. The container of the mesitylene moderator is situated in front of the polyethylene moderator and the change of the time of flight spectrum has been recorded as a function of the temperature of the mesitylene moderator. By fitting the Maxwell distribution to the obtained TOF spectra, the neutron temperature corresponding to the mesitylene temperature is estimated.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
