This study was a case study of qualitative research design to know the impact of distance learning through zoom application and WhatsApp group on students’ attitude and English aptitude: A Case Study on Students of ICT due Covid-19 Outbreak. The result of the study showed that most of the students’ attitude or response to the online learning using zoom application are less interesting, interactive, effective, efficient and energetic. It was also found that many troubles with their signal, and they often got limited internet package. Zoom meeting needed much internet package to connect between lecturer and learners in one meeting. In this case, the trouble networks and limited internet also often gave impact on students’ learning process, style, and strategy to enhance their English aptitude; listening and speaking competency. Meanwhile, the lecturer took the usage of WhatsApp group by sending voice notes and materials about reading and writing. No troubled networks to download and upload the reading and writing tasks during distance teaching and learning class. It needed a little internet to get the online materials. Based on the situation, almost all participants felt interesting to join reading and writing online class. Aside from that, they could enhance their own English aptitude; reading and writing proficiency. To against the highly infectious covid-19 pandemic, the distance learning has created their physic and mental health from fear, anxiety, panic, and the outbreaks of influenza. Learning from home is one of the solution to reduce the physical contact to large number of people. Distance learning has been referred to save educational young generation from the pandemic of covid-19 outbreak.
During Covid-19 outbreak, the lecturers and learners adjust to carry out class by applying online teaching-learning. Online teaching-learning built a new approach of communication between lecturers and learners in online course. This research aimed to describe online college English teaching-learning amidst Covid-19 pandemic: opportunities, challenges, and solutions. This research applied phenomenological research design in which the data sources were questionnaire and observation results dealing with the learners’ responses on teaching-learning amidst covid-19 emergency. It was found that almost all students studied English more accessible and flexible without came and met the lecturers in college, they could share information each other through online platform, nothing interaction among of them to prevent the outbreak. However, majority of college learners complained about financial, internet package, trouble networks, and time management that the learners sometimes got boring to study English. Dealing with the issues, Indonesia has contributed the internet package to assist the learners’ financial, and the lecturers has implemented games to create class more interactive, and energetic.DOI: 10.26905/enjourme.v7i1.6580
Abstract This study aims to analyze the difficulties faced by industrial engineering college students. It also investigates the way they triumph over those troubles in learning speaking. This study employed descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this study were the freshman of industrial engineering department at University of Madura who took English course. The data were gathered from the observation, questionnaire, and document. The findings of this study confirmed that industrial Engineering students faced some problems in learning English. They were fear of making mistake, shyness, anxiety, lack confidence and lack of motivation. Amidst viral Covid-19 emergency, the minister of education and culture has instructed the teachers or lecturers and learners to utilize the social media as online teaching-learning process. In this case, the researchers tried to find out the college learners’ reading interests through social media (WhatsApp group). This research applied a case study design in which the data sources were interview and self-report questionnaire. The result of interview showed the college learners were interests and fun, enjoy, confident. Additionally, the college learners also had much time to read, and got new experiences. The result of self-report questionnaire described almost all college learners felt happy, enthusiastic, enjoy, confident, satisfied, belonged to WhatsApp group, better communication, and also the college learners had much time to read, a great deal of information, and academic achievement. WhatsApp group has become online teaching-learning media that can raise the college learners’ reading interests amidst viral Covid-19 emergency. The educators and learners were suggested to use the social media such as WhatsApp group as online teaching-learning media during pandemic.
