Bei der Wasseranalyse war es friiher vielfach iiblich, die ermittelten Sauren und Basen zu Salzen zusammenzustellen, da man annahm, daS sie auch als solche im Wasser gelost vorhanden sind. Dabei stromen die Gase in horizontaler Richtung durch die Offnungen der Zwischenwande hindurch. Jede Abteilung wird mit der Absorptionsfliissigkeit von oben durch Druckluf t gefullt, die ablaufende Fliissigkeit von Sammelklisten wieder bis zur Sattigung auf die betreffende Abteilung gedruckt. Die Sattigung erfolgt naturlich um so rascher, je niiher die betreffende Abteilung zu dem Gaseintritte liegt. Die Ablaufkasten sind an dem hinteren Ende der Kammer bis zum vorderen terraasenformig abfallend aufgestellt und mit Uberlaufen verbunden. Die frische Absorptionsfliissigkeit wird in den obersten Kasten eingefuhrt. Die stiirksten Gase treffen stets mit der am weitesten gesattigten Lijsung und umgekehrt die fast stickoxydfreien Gase am Ende der Kammer mit der frischen Absorptionsfliissigkeit zusammen. Dieses absorbiert bei gewohnlicher Tem eratur etwa 20% seines Gewichtes an Stickoxyden. Beim gurchleiten von Luft und anderen Gasen gibt es in der Warme die Stickoxyde wieder in konz. Form ab.
