Die spontane Decarboxylierung der OES, wird nach H-Wieland bereits durch gekochten Muskel beschleunigt. In Geweben wurde sie durch verschiedene Forscher zum Teil durch Messung der C0 2 -Produktion [R Mayer 1 ), Wieland 2 )], zum Teü durch Messung der gebildeten BES. [Hahn und Haar m an n 3 )] verfolgt. Wie in den vorhergehenden Kapiteln gezeigt, fungiert die OES. in den Geweben als Wasserstoffacceptor. Gleichzeitig werden andere Zellbestandteile in äquivalenter Menge oxydiert Es kann also, ebenso wie im normalen Atmungsprozeß, durch Oxydation dieser C0 a gebildet werden. Daher verliert die Messung des gebildeten C0 2 auf Zugabe von OES. als Grundlage einer Decarboxylierung gänzlich ihre Beweiskraft. Wie aber Laki zeigte, wird unter gewissen Umständen nach Zufügung von OES. zu den Geweben eine äquivalente Menge von BRS. gebildet, die auf Einwirkung von OES, oxydativ aus Kohlenhydraten entsteht. Also verlieren auch alle jene Versuche ihre Beweiskraft, in denen der Nachweis der BES. als Beweis der Decarboxylierung herangezogen wurde. Eine Antwort auf die Frage der Decarboxylierung kann man nur durch quantitative, bilanzmäßige Versuche erhalten, in denen alle in Betracht kommenden Substanzen bestimmt werden. In dem von uns untersuchten Muskelgewebe wird die OES. mit großer Geschwindigkeit reduziert, so daß die Lebensdauer der durch Oxydation gebildeten OES. nur kurz ist, und der größte Teil der zugesetzten OES. stets als FÄS. vorliegt. Eine Decarboxylierung der OES. könnte also nur dann eine größere quantitative Bedeutung haben, wenn ihre Geschwindigkeit mit jener Eeduktion vergleichbar wäre. Bereits in unserer . Mitteilung haben wir gezeigt, daß die dem Gewebe unter aeroben Bedingungen zugesetzte FS. oder ÄS. als FÄS. erhalten bleibt. Da die FS. unserer Theorie entsprechend stets zu OES. oxydiert wird, beweist bereits dieser Versuch, daß die Intensität der Decarboxylierung verglichen mit der Intensität ')
