Alinde , unique tragédie de La Mesnardière, n’est guère connue aujourd’hui que pour son échec auprès du public. L’article se propose d’en chercher une explication grâce à l’étude du motif de la fureur, partagé par la majorité des dramaturges contemporains. La Poétique en réprouve l’usage spectaculaire mais, pourtant, Alinde l’exploite largement à son tour. Cet hiatus fait de cette tragédie, pour La Mesnardière, un pari dramatique qu’il était impossible de tenir.
