Quando, após anos perscrutando antropológica e sociologicamente corpos humanos em deslocamento físico e em interação social nas ruas e largos do centro histórico da São Paulo oitocentista e do início do século XX (Frehse, 2005, 2011), o olhar etnográfico se volta para o presente ali, é inevitável estranhar tempo e espaço sociais. Se a materialidade física das vias e praças é quase totalmente outra, e isso vale ainda mais para a materialidade humana-os corpos dos pedestres, seus modos de agir, pensar, imaginar e se relacionar socialmente-, não há como não se questionar sobre a atualidade espacial e temporal dessa humanidade. 2 Ainda mais quando, como no meu caso, interessam as regras de interação social que impregnam a presença física regular, em tais ruas e praças no horário comercial dos chamados dias úteis, de pedestres mais ou menos intensamente envolvidos em trabalho braçal e/ou no ócio que o acompanha: vendedores ambulantes, engraxates, sapateiros, os chamados plaqueiros, pregadores, além de gente popularmente conhecida como maloqueira, desocupada; pedestres que moram ou não na rua. Por compartilharem ali, sem saber, ao menos uma técnica corporal em um ritmo peculiar-a permanência física regular nesse espaço-, venho denominando tais pedestres analiticamente nãotranseuntes (Frehse, 2013). Com efeito, do ponto de vista analítico o não-trânsito é um comportamento corporal definido (Frehse, 2011:46). Ele persiste vigoroso ali em meio às A rua no Brasil em questão (etnográfica)
