Dazu, dass dieses Buch nun in dieser Form vorliegt, haben viele Menschen beigetragen, denen ich an dieser und zurecht an erster Stelle danken möchte.Erste Überlegungen zum Zusammenhang von Muße und Briefen sind im Sonderforschungsbereich 1015 "Muße. Konzepte, Räume, Figuren" der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, insbesondere im Teilprojekt "Räume der Muße in der griechischen und römischen Briefliteratur" unter Leitung meines Doktorvaters Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. Bernhard Zimmermanns, entstanden. Mein Zweitbetreuer Professor Dr. Wolfgang Kofler hat die Konzeption des Projektes wesentlich geprägt und ist ihm auch nach seinem Ruf an die Universität Innsbruck außergewöhnlich eng verbunden geblieben.Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. Bernhard Zimmermann und Professor Dr. Wolfgang Kofler haben mir die Möglichkeit eröffnet, dieses Projekt zu realisieren. Während der gesamten Zeit haben sie die Entwicklung der Arbeit aufmerksam, hilfsbereit und in den richtigen Momenten kritisch begleitet. Die zahlreichen Gespräche mit ihnen waren Grundlage dafür, dass ich Überlegungen hinterfragen, präzisieren und weiterentwickeln konnte. Ebenso verdanke ich ihnen den im akademischen Tagesgeschäft so wertvollen Freiraum -sowohl in Freiburg als auch in Innsbruck -, in dem ich auf das Projekt fokussieren und es in kurzer Zeit voranbringen konnte. Für ihr bestärkendes Vertrauen und ihre langjährige Unterstützung danke ich ihnen ganz besonders.Der Sonderforschungsbereich 1015 "Muße", insbesondere der Austausch mit den Kolleginnen und Kollegen im Graduiertenkolleg, in der Lektüregruppe "Antike Kanon texte der Muße" sowie im Projektbereich "Räume der Muße", war ein anregender und wichtiger Resonanz-und Erprobungsraum für alle Gedanken zum Konzept von Muße. Den Diskussionen in diesen interdisziplinären Foren verdanke ich viele fruchtbare Impulse. Stellvertretend für alle Mitarbeitenden möchte ich Professor Dr. Peter Philipp Riedl nennen, der als Projektmanager unseren gemeinsamen Forschungen einen Rahmen gegeben hat und mir in seiner Funktion als Mitglied des SFB-Vorstands sowie des Herausgebergremiums der Otium-Reihe während des Publikationsprozesses stets mit Rat und Tat zur Seite stand.
