Failure to resolve the aryl olefins II, III, IV and V was reported in the preceding paper.1 Compound I, on the other hand, was resolved2 and an active form had a half-life period of 173 minutes in ra-butanol at 44°. The difference between I and
The neopentyl-type alcohol, 2,2,3-trimethyl-lbutanol (I), has been converted to the hydrocarbon trimethylbutane (triptane) (II) without rearrangement by hydrogenolysis over a cobalt catalyst at high temperature and pressure. The reactions involved, including the synthesis of the trimethylbutanol starting with tetramethylethylene, have been carried out on a laboratory scale as indicated in the scheme CH, CH,
Nylon filament yarn colored with acid dyes frequently shows unevenness in appearance. In some cases this unevenness can be traced to slight differences in orientation due to uneven drawing. In other cases small changes in the number of amine end-groups in the polymer cause this effect. It has been found that this unevenness can be minimized, and with some colors completely eliminated, by dyeing in a bath so dilute in dye as to be colorless to the eye.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
