Résumé Le projet des Associations universitaires régionales d’éducation et de formation des adultes (AUREFA) constitue une alternative au système développé à la suite de la loi de 1971 portant organisation de la formation professionnelle continue dans le cadre de l’éducation permanente. Les AUREFA développaient un modèle concerté et régionalisé de la formation, donnant à l’Université une place centrale. Bien qu’officiellement créées en 1969, elles ne virent jamais le jour. Quintessence du projet de développement de l’éducation permanente de Bertrand Schwartz et de ses collaborateurs, leur échec préfigure celui du Complexe CUCES-INFA de Nancy. Cet article propose une lecture de cet épisode oublié de l’histoire de la formation des adultes, du contenu de ce projet et de ce qui l’a motivé à son échec où interviennent des causes internes et externes aux AUREFA.
Résumé La politique de promotion sociale – selon la loi Debré de 1959 –, c’est-à-dire une politique de formation pour des adultes déjà au travail –, a d’abord été pensée par des hommes, pour des hommes. Fondé sur des archives, cet article montre comment, dans la mise en œuvre de cette politique, on a d’abord oublié les femmes comme de possibles destinataires des actions de formation. Il décrit ensuite les circonstances et les événements qui ont progressivement conduit, au plan national, à soulever la question de la promotion féminine dans les travaux de différents comités. Les discours commencent à changer à partir de la mi-1966. Les femmes vont y acquérir une nouvelle, mais éphémère, visibilité, en tant que public de la formation. Visibilité qu’elles vont perdre en se fondant dans la figure asexuée du « salarié » qui devient le bénéficiaire des nouveaux droits à la formation, qui se mettent en place au début des années 1970.
