In the highlands of South Vietnam, the development of silk production is related to the present transition to market economy in the context of international exchanges. State and private firms are competing on the same markets. The firm appears as an arena where different actors with specific logics confront each other. The silkwoom breeders, mill workers, supervisors, political and administrative executives, brokers and customers all have different expectations and strategies concerning the development. Taking into consideration these various personal perspectives and actions as a constitutive part of the firm's dynamics and identity, enables the author to paint an intricate picture of the current upheavals.
