Les sondages archéologiques réalisés sur l’affleurement de schiste du Pissot de "l’Ermitage" à Saint-Germain-du-Corbéis (Orne, France) ont permis de reconnaître des traces anciennes d’exploitation. Cette dernière consiste en l’extraction de plaques de schiste destinées au façonnage d’anneaux utilisés à la fin du Néolithique ancien. Sur ce site d’acquisition, le façonnage se limite à la mise en forme de disques irréguliers, voire à un simple test du matériau. L’essentiel de la chaîne opératoire est réalisé au sein des sites producteurs installés à proximité (moins de cinq kilomètres). La confection des anneaux est donc organisée entre différents sites localisés à proximité de l’affleurement exploité (au sein de la plaine de Sées/ Alençon). Les objets produits sont ensuite diffusés sur différents sites de Basse-Normandie et du Bassin parisien. Des éléments nouveaux sont donc versés à la compréhension du phénomène d’utilisation des anneaux par la culture du Villeneuve-Saint-Germain/ Blicquy.
Une fenêtre de décapage de 2 500 m² a été ouverte autour d'une concentration de vestiges céramiques découverts lors d'un diagnostic archéologique réalisé par B. Herard (Inrap). La fouille a mis en évidence des trous de poteaux correspondant à un bâtiment allongé trapézoïdal de tradition rubanée, orienté est-ouest. Deux fosses latérales bordent le bâtiment au nord et au sud. Elles sont étendues et peu profondes. La fosse nord est située à l'aplomb des vestiges découverts au diagnostic. Une fosse circulaire, interprétée comme un possible silo, est présente entre la fosse latérale sud et la paroi du bâtiment. Un mobilier assez important a été découvert dans le probable silo, dans les fosses latérales et dans une moindre mesure dispersés dans les limons dans la partie ouest de la fenêtre de fouille. Le mobilier céramique se compose de formes globulaires décorées de décors plastiques (boutons, anses, V-cordons et cordons horizontaux). Le mobilier en silex est réalisé exclusivement dans le faciès local issu du calcaire bathonien d'Écouché. La plupart des déchets de taille témoignent de la production d'éclats par percussion directe ; il n'y a pas de production laminaire standardisée. L'outillage est dominé par les grattoirs et les éclats retouchés. La présence de burins sur lame régulière et de tranchets est toutefois non négligeable. Un fragment d'anneau en schiste à couronne large a été découvert dans le comblement de la fosse latérale sud. De nombreux éclats de dolérite et de cornéenne témoignent par ailleurs d'une production d'outils bifaciaux (haches ?). Une série d'outils de mouture fragmentaire et de percuteurs en grès complètent l'assemblage. Les ossements sont mal conservés et se limitent à quelques dents de bovins. L'attribution de l'ensemble des vestiges renvoie à la phase tardive du Néolithique ancien, de tradition stylistique Blicquy -Villeneuve-Saint-Germain récent/à cordon et tranchet.
