AbstractTourism is one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the world; Sun and beach tourism is the main tourist industry in Spain. Social networks play a key role in the development of tourism destinations as one of the main channels for its dissemination and marketing, and a space for actual and potential tourists to share their experiences, influencing the decisions of other tourists. The present research analyses the presence and management of the main sun and beach destinations of Spain on Facebook, together with user interaction as possible sources of eWOM. To this purpose, a quantitative methodology is used, based on the monitoring and analysis of the content posted by the managers and the users on the official tourism profiles. The results show a clear implementation of this social network in marketing and communication strategies of tourist destinations, but with different approaches and results. Hence, they do not allow to establish a direct relationship between the variables analysed and their impact on user interaction. In this sense, the pertinence of global metrics is concluded, although complemented with individualized studies of users and their interests.
The audiovisual medium has served as a transmitter of values throughout its history. From militant cinema to videoactivism, audiovisual productions have been agents that generate awareness in the viewer, and currently offer new possibilities through the evolution of the media ecosystem and the emergence of virtual reality (VR). Among them, dual ubiquity, key in the generation of empathy in the viewer, since it is capable of transporting the audience to other realities. Therefore, what impact can virtual reality have on the field of contemporary audiovisual activism? To deepen this issue, a bibliographic review of the references has been carried out, as well as on recent research that addresses this issue. Once this first phase is completed, we design a virtual reality film analysis model that updates the immersive triangle (Cortés-Selva, 2015), based on the variables established by Archer and Finger (2018) and Domínguez-Martín (2015), with which two productions of Emblematic Group, one of the main producers of the field of non-fiction with RV, have been analyzed. Finally, the results show some of the common features identified as necessary to produce an emotional impact on the audience, essential for their effectiveness as tools of social transformation.
The local press has always played a central role in the Portuguese society. Recently, new innovative technological projects to develop mobile applications and focus on local journalism in Portugal have emerged. These initiatives allow the development of better and more appealing services for local users. However, due to the important social role of the local press, this also brings along some responsibilities. Our main research goal is to study the accessibility issues in local journalism in Portugal. To this end, we first describe the current situation of local journalism in Portugal and some accessibility issues raised by the appearance of mobile applications. We then develop a simple checklist that allows the assessment of whether these applications have prevented social exclusion and facilitated the access of local information to a wide range of users, including disabled citizens. This tool provides the regional news publisher with information to improve its democratization of access to local information in Portugal. Using the cognitive walkthrough method, we illustrate the proposed framework by presenting case studies of five mobile applications in Portuguese local and regional press. This study concludes that despite the great potential that mobile applications showcase, several accessibility issues have not been properly addressed.
